Herminie: United Seychelles Offers Strategic Solutions for Social Justice

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The leader of the United Seychelles party, Dr Patrick Herminie, has called for reflection on the state of social justice in Seychelles as the world marked World Day of Social Justice on February 20. In a statement, Dr Herminie said the gap in social equity has widened significantly over the last four years, with a growing number of citizens now living in poverty while a select few continue to control the majority of the nation’s wealth.
He said youth unemployment is alarmingly high, exacerbated by a growing dependency on cheap foreign labour, enabled by weak governmental policies that fail to safeguard job opportunities for young people. He added that the public healthcare system is failing to deliver adequate primary health care, depriving citizens of their right to quality medical services. Dr Herminie also noted that the victims of the CCCL explosion on December 7, 2023, are still waiting for proper shelter and justice.
The United Seychelles party has outlined strategic solutions in its manifesto aimed at alleviating poverty and creating a more equitable society, including prioritising youth employment by ensuring opportunities for Seychellois before foreign labour is considered, and implementing a comprehensive skills development strategy. Dr Herminie urged the government to publicly release the findings of the investigation into the CCCL explosion in Petit Paris, adding that ‘transparency and accountability are vital for justice and public trust.’ He concluded by calling on citizens to choose United Seychelles as the path to a better Seychelles.
