Denmark’s Stephan Schonemann Accredited as Fourth Danish Ambassador to Seychelles
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The new ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Seychelles, Stephan Schonemann, presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan yesterday morning at State House. He also called on Vice-President Ahmed-Afif; Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde; Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Flavien Joubert; and the Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Michael Rosette.
Speaking to the press after his meeting with President Ramkalawan, Mr Schonemann said the discussion was centred around primary topics which both countries engage in, such as maritime security, energy and climate change. There were also discussions on whether more can be done regarding climate adaption on the marine front, while he also mentioned the thousands of Danish tourists who visit Seychelles every year.
Mr Schonemann noted that Seychelles is a strong believer in global institutions and came out strongly on some of the crises that the world is facing, as well as engaging in a number of partnerships. “That role is important and we strongly support it.” He will be the fourth Danish ambassador to be accredited and will replace Ole Thonke, accredited to Seychelles on April 20, 2021. He will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. The Kingdom of Denmark and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on January 27, 1979.
