Singer Katty Melanie Opens Up About Life with Stage Four Cervical Cancer

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Katty Melanie, one of Seychelles’ best-known singers, songwriters and directors, has spoken publicly about her fight with stage four cervical cancer, in an interview at her home in Brillant yesterday in which she described living “one day at a time”.

Ms Melanie was first diagnosed with stage two cervical cancer in 2019 and, unable to undergo chemotherapy, travelled to India for 40 sessions of radiotherapy. After a period of recovery, she said, she was doing well until the illness returned and progressed. The 1990s-era singer, who has been a fixture of the local music scene for decades, has continued to write and rehearse at home despite the toll the disease is taking.

She thanked her fans, family and fellow artists for their messages of support following a recent social media post in which she spoke frankly about her condition. “I am living one day at a time and I am grateful for every moment,” she said. Her story has prompted a public outpouring of support from across the islands.
