Health Ministry and WHO Sign 2024-2025 Biennial Programme of Action
VICTORIA, Seychelles, The Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation signed a biennial programme of action for the years 2024 and 2025 yesterday at L’Escale Resort Marina and Spa. The signing formalises the consensus between the two entities to enhance healthcare and well-being in Seychelles which is benefitting from an increased budget space of US $2.9 million for the 2024-2025 biennium. The agreement sets out a clear framework for joint work over the next two years.
Minister Peggy Vidot and the WHO country representative signed the documents on behalf of their respective organisations. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Health, the WHO country office, and other partner agencies. The atmosphere at the signing was described as collaborative and forward-looking, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to improving health outcomes for the Seychellois population.
The increased budget allocation reflects the growing importance placed on health sector cooperation between Seychelles and the WHO. The funds will support a range of activities aimed at strengthening health systems, improving service delivery, and addressing key public health challenges facing the country. Both parties expressed satisfaction at the conclusion of the negotiations that led to the agreement.
The programme of action covers several priority areas, including non-communicable diseases, mental health, maternal and child health, and health system strengthening. It also includes provisions for capacity building, technical support, and the development of national health policies. The biennial format allows for better planning and coordination of activities across the two-year period.
Speaking at the event, both signatories emphasised the importance of partnership in advancing the country’s health agenda. The Minister noted that the agreement represents a significant step forward in the country’s efforts to deliver quality healthcare to all citizens. The WHO representative pledged continued support to Seychelles in its journey towards universal health coverage and the achievement of related sustainable development goals.
