Seychelles to Host Miss Hotlegs Pageant for First Time

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles will host the Miss Hotlegs beauty pageant in August 2024, the first time the international competition will be held in the country, organisers confirmed this week. The event is curated by Finishing Touch Events UK, with the chief executive, Mosy O’Ginni, leading the project. Applications are open now and will close on Saturday, March 30 2024, with try-outs scheduled between April 1 and April 16.

Entry to the pageant is free of charge, a deliberate choice by the organisers, and applicants will have around ten weeks to submit their entries. The competition will include distinct categories catering to different age groups, in addition to the main title. Organisers said the final will be a spectacle, with prominent personalities from the entertainment world expected to attend. The pageant, which began as Miss Lovely Legs in the United Kingdom in 2005 and has since been held in several other countries, is, in its Seychelles edition, a reimagining of the brand for a small-island context.

Ms O’Ginni said the choice of Seychelles as the host country was a strategic one. The decision, she added, reflects deep admiration for the nation’s natural beauty and cultural richness. The Seychelles edition of Miss Hotlegs has been designed to celebrate and respect local traditions while maintaining the global appeal of the brand. Distinctive themes have been curated, drawing on the islands’ Creole heritage, fashion, and environmental identity.

Environmental stewardship will be a central theme of the pageant, in alignment with the country’s longstanding commitment to conservation. Strategic partnerships with local businesses, organisations, and the Seychellois government are already in place, organisers said, and the design of the event will reflect the partnership structure. The approach, Ms O’Ginni argued, ensures the event is not merely a beauty contest but a platform for community engagement and for showcasing Seychelles to a wider audience.

For the local economy, the pageant is expected to provide a small but visible boost to tourism. Ms O’Ginni said the global appeal of the brand, combined with the destination itself, is designed to amplify the country’s visibility on the world stage. The selection of Seychelles, in her view, is also a statement of belief in the country’s potential as a host for high-profile international events. Organisers have invited Seychellois designers, talents, and businesses to participate in the build-up to the final.
