President Ramkalawan to Attend World Governments Summit in Dubai
VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan will travel to Dubai next week to attend the World Governments Summit 2024, held under the theme Shaping Future Governments. The annual gathering brings together governments, international organisations, thought leaders, and private sector leaders to discuss innovative approaches to common challenges. The presidency said the visit would be used to reinforce Seychelles’ engagement on the international stage.
The summit aims to encourage international cooperation and to identify solutions that can inspire the next generation of governments. The presidency said the president would use the visit to advance Seychelles’ engagement on a number of policy fronts, with side events and bilateral meetings scheduled alongside the main programme. Several agreements in the areas of climate finance and digital transformation are expected to be discussed.
During his time in Dubai, the president will also meet with a group of 26 chief executives who are completing an intensive executive leadership programme sponsored by the government of the United Arab Emirates. The meeting is intended to deepen ties with senior business figures operating in the Emirates. Officials said the discussions would focus on investment opportunities in the Seychelles economy.
While the president is out of the country, his duties and responsibilities will be discharged by Vice President Ahmed Afif. The presidency confirmed that all scheduled state business would continue as normal during the brief period of the visit. Any urgent matters requiring presidential action will be referred to the vice president in line with the constitution.
The World Governments Summit has become one of the most high-profile gatherings on the global governance calendar, and the Seychelles delegation is expected to focus on areas of direct relevance to the country’s economic and social agenda. Further details of the president’s programme in Dubai are expected to be released closer to the summit. The delegation is expected to return to Seychelles before the end of the week.
