MCB Seychelles Awards Cash Prizes to 21 Winners of Cashless Campaign

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Mauritian Commercial Bank (MCB) Seychelles has rewarded the 21 lucky winners of its cashless campaign, which ran from December 1, 2023 to January 15, 2024. The prize-giving ceremony, which involved a star prize worth R100,000 and 20 R10,000 cash prizes, was held yesterday morning at the bank’s main office at Caravelle House. The cash prizes were presented by different members of the MCB Seychelles team. The framing of the campaign as a third consecutive annual initiative is being read as a sign of the bank’s long-term commitment to driving cashless payments in the local market.

MCB Seychelles launched the ‘Win Big With Cashless’ campaign in partnership with Visa. The purpose of the promotional campaign is to encourage the use of cashless transactions through MCB Visa cards at point of sale (POS) machines and online payment. To obtain a lottery ticket, the bank’s customers needed to only perform a transaction using their MCB Visa Debit (Classic and Platinum) or Credit cards (Classic and Gold) to pay online and on any POS terminals during the campaign period. The breadth of the qualifying transactions is being read as a sign that the campaign was designed to reward habitual card users, rather than to drive one-off transactions.

The draw took place on January 31, 2024 in the presence of the police. The star prize was won by Roy Moumou, who said he felt very happy and was surprised after receiving a call saying he had won. This is a very good initiative by MCB, said Mr Moumou, who added he only knew about the campaign through MCB’s advertisement on social media. Two other winners were Anne Wangui Wairimu and Jemmy Labiche, who each won R10,000. I feel so very excited and so happy because I was not aware of the campaign, so it came as a shock, shared Ms Wairimu. Mr Labiche added: I am not someone who is a fan of the cashless method, so it came as a surprise to me when I found out I was one of the winners.

The campaign was coordinated by Elaine Derjacques, marketing and communications manager at MCB Seychelles. I want to congratulate all of you who participated in our campaign till the end, said Ms Derjacques. During the ceremony, MCB’s customer service representative Belinda Baptiste shared information about the bank’s Juice app, encouraging customers to make use of it. The juice app is a cocktail of all the services MCB has to offer, which is why we are encouraging everyone to download the app on their device for smoother transactions, said Ms Baptiste.

This cashless campaign initiative was the third consecutive lucky draw held by MCB Seychelles since 2022, where five lucky winners each won R5,000 for a year. In 2022, one lucky winner plus a guest were flown to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, whereby the winner won an all-inclusive package to attend the third place play-off match, final match and the closing ceremony. Following this year’s monetary prizes, MCB Seychelles said it was already developing its 2024 campaign. The decision to keep the prize structure varied, from cash to international travel, is being read as a sign that the bank is willing to adapt the campaign each year to maintain customer interest.
