Seychelles Electoral Boundaries to Stay Unchanged for 2025
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Electoral Commission has announced that electoral boundaries will remain unchanged for the 2025 national elections, Chairperson Danny Lucas confirmed on Monday after presenting the commission’s report to President Wavel Ramkalawan.
The decision follows a careful review process in which the commission has prioritised public consultation, engagement with political parties and dialogue with civil society. Mr. Lucas said the delimitation exercise had been approached with the highest possible level of transparency, and that feedback received through the commission’s social media channels and website would inform the final report.
Mr. Lucas was joined by Chief Electoral Officer Manuella Amesbury and Commissioner Wendy Didon for the presentation at State House. The chairperson explained that the commission had completed the technical work of the first phase of the delimitation exercise and was now moving to broader consultations before issuing its final recommendations.
The commission observed significant disparities in voter numbers across districts during its review. Anse Boileau was found to have a particularly high concentration of voters, while Port Glaud and Roche Caiman had extremely low figures. The commission has indicated that addressing these disparities will be a central focus of the next phase of work.
A planned series of public consultations had to be postponed after the December 6 and 7 calamities disrupted activities around the country. Mr. Lucas thanked all those involved in the technical phase and stressed that the commission did not wish to rush the consultation process, given the importance of community engagement.
The commission has confirmed that its social media platform and website remain fully operational, allowing members of the public to submit their views on the proposed boundaries. The final report is expected to be tabled in the coming months, well in advance of the 2025 poll.
The boundaries decision will shape the political map of Seychelles for the next general election.
