SALGA Delegation Pays Courtesy Call on Speaker Mancienne
VICTORIA, Seychelles — A delegation from the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Roger Mancienne, as part of an exchange aimed at contributing to more effective and accountable municipal governance. The Speaker was accompanied by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Tania Isaac.
SALGA is a national representative body focused on transforming local governance and promoting good governance at the local level. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the District Development Model, an inter-governmental mechanism designed to improve service delivery, preparation for upcoming local elections, and broader issues of municipal governance.
Hon. Mancienne spoke on the relationship between the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs and the National Assembly, noting that de-politicisation is needed for a well-functioning local government system. He said the differences between Seychelles and other nations were discussed, but the principles of good governance remain universal. The two parties agreed to follow up on the engagement with technical exchanges and future cooperation.
