Captain Adrian Mondon Appointed Seypec CEO as Sarah Romain Contract Terminated Early

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The board of the Seychelles Petroleum Company Limited yesterday announced the appointment of Captain Adrian Mondon as chief executive of the company and Brenda Gobine as deputy, effective December 20, 2025. Captain Mondon brings 23 years of experience in the maritime sector, including 11 years as a captain on Seypec tankers, while Mrs Gobine becomes the first individual to hold the deputy chief executive post.

Finance Minister Pierre Laporte clarified the circumstances of outgoing chief executive Sarah Romain’s departure during a press conference at Liberty House. He refuted comments she made to local media on Thursday December 18, 2025, that the decision to end her contract earlier than expected was not reached by mutual agreement. ‘I told her that we could discuss a time frame for when she would like to leave and she replied that she wanted to take her annual leave and would leave immediately. It was not I who asked her to leave,’ he said.

Mr Laporte noted that Mrs Romain is the sister of former Vice-President Ahmed Afif and the wife of the elected member for Anse Etoile, Georges Romain, both of the opposition LDS. ‘For us, it is not appropriate for her to be in charge of Seypec, which we consider a strategic company, given her affiliation with members of the opposition. This would not have been an issue if she had not been working in a strategic position,’ he said.
