VICTORIA, Seychelles — Vijay Construction Pty Ltd has been recognised as the safest workplace in Seychelles for 2025, while the runner-up is Allied Builders Sey Ltd, followed by Mahe Design and Build Pty Ltd in third place. Vijay Construction received the Best Safe Workplace Award, which recognises excellence in safety, in a ceremony held on Thursday evening hosted by the Employment department at the Savoy Resort and Spa, Beau Vallon. It was part of activities to commemorate Safety Week 2025, in line with the International Labour Organisation’s 2025 global theme: ‘Revolutionising Health and Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalisation at Work’.
In addition, the construction company won Best Occupational Safety and Health Management System, while Mahe Design and Build Pty Ltd received the award for Best Housekeeping, Health and Welfare, and Allied Builders Sey Ltd was recognised as the Most Compliant Company to Occupational Safety and Health Legislations. The event was graced by Vice-President Sebastien Pillay, Minister for Employment and Human Resource Planning Idith Alexander, and Minister for Environment, Climate, Energy, and Natural Resources Marie-May Jeremie.
Speaking after receiving the top award, Kaushal Patel, director of Vijay Construction, shared the company’s philosophy on maintaining safety standards. ‘We do not do things differently; we just follow the rules of the construction industry. If workers are safe, if they are working in a safe environment, productivity is very high,’ he stated. In her keynote address, Minister Alexander emphasised the fundamental importance of workplace safety. ‘Workplace safety is not a privilege; it is a right. This right serves as the foundation upon which trust, productivity, and human dignity are built,’ she stated, noting that 10 fatal accidents have been recorded in the construction sector over the past five years.
