Seychelles Launches PV Rebate 2.0 with Rebates of Up to R31,500 for Solar Homes

VICTORIA, Seychelles — As part of the government’s Green Energy Initiative aimed at reducing dependency on fossil fuels, the newly revamped Residential PV (Photovoltaic) Rebate Scheme 2.0 was officially launched yesterday morning during a press conference at Liberty House, Victoria.
The announcement followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding two days earlier between the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade (MoFNP), the Department of Climate Change and Energy, and the Utilities Regulatory Commission (URC), which established the necessary mechanisms to bring the scheme to life. Under the upgraded scheme, Seychellois households installing rooftop solar PV systems will be eligible for rebates of up to R31,500, depending on system size and configuration.
The scheme is designed to accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar across Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, reduce household electricity bills, ease pressure on the national grid, and contribute to the country’s renewable energy and emissions reduction targets. It builds on the original PV rebate programme, with revised eligibility criteria, technical standards and rebate levels to reflect falling equipment costs and rising electricity demand.
The Department of Climate Change and Energy and the URC will jointly administer the scheme, process applications and certify installers. Detailed guidance, application forms and the list of approved installers are being made available to the public through the department’s offices and online portals.
