Fourth Joint Economic Forum Tackles Agriculture, Fisheries and Taxation Reforms
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Agriculture, fisheries, labour, land, taxation and digitalisation were among the points raised during the fourth Joint Economic Forum meeting led by the Head of State, President Wavel Ramkalawan, yesterday at State House.
The landmark initiative is aimed at institutionalising dialogue and cooperation between the government and the private sector. The forum responds directly to proposals tabled by the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on May 14, 2025. When addressing the participants, President Ramkalawan thanked the private sector for its continued work alongside the government as the country’s economy has shown strong positive signs of recovery, stability and progress.
The meeting reviewed the status of earlier commitments from previous forums, examined the implementation of agreed reforms, and set out new timelines for pending actions, particularly in the areas of digitalisation of public services and tax administration. The forum also discussed the impact of global economic conditions on Seychelles, the resilience of the tourism and fisheries sectors, and the need to diversify the economy.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the Joint Economic Forum as a permanent platform for structured engagement, with the next meeting scheduled to take place in the coming months. The Presidency said the forum will continue to play a central role in aligning government policy with private sector priorities, supporting inclusive growth and protecting the country’s economic gains.
