Seychelles Wins Seat on UN Tourism Executive Council for 2025-2029

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles has been elected to the Executive Council of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa (CAF) for the 2025-2029 term, in a vote held at the 68th meeting of the commission in Abuja, Nigeria. The country was represented by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Sylvestre Radegonde, accompanied by principal secretary for tourism, Sherin Francis, and other senior officials.
The election, which took place from June 11 to 13, is seen as recognition of the country’s growing profile in African tourism policy. Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Mr Radegonde said the seat would give Seychelles a stronger voice in shaping regional tourism strategy, particularly as the continent seeks to recover from recent shocks and reposition itself as a competitive global destination.
Over the three days, delegates discussed the future of African tourism, with a focus on sustainability, air connectivity, marketing and human-capital development. Seychelles used the platform to share its experience in sustainable tourism planning, marine protected-area management and the integration of community-based operators into the wider value chain. The new term begins immediately.
