Deux Couleurs Exhibition Opens at Le Sud Cultural Centre in La Réunion
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Since April 17, 2025, the Le Sud cultural centre at Saint-Pierre has been hosting an exhibition that is an artistic dialogue between Seychelles and La Réunion, the brainchild of the Heritage and Creation programme overseen by the Reunion Department. The exhibition, titled ‘Deux couleurs’, brings together two Seychellois artists, James Agricole and Daniel Mike Dodin, with the cultural, social and natural realities of Reunion Island. It will run until June 6.
Inaugurated in the presence of Mrs Béatrice Sigismeau, vice-president of the Departmental Council, Deux couleurs positions itself as a shared space of reflection, aesthetic emotion, and identity expression. It offers the public a rare opportunity to discover an artistic production in residence, the result of a stay of several months begun on February 1 by the two invited artists. The works of James Agricole strike with their visual and symbolic richness, mixing pointillism, mosaics and sculptural forms to evoke the landscapes of Reunion, in particular the volcanic zones.
In his creations, nature becomes a central figure, a mirror of the intimate relationship between humans and their environment. Daniel Mike Dodin, for his part, explores the question of memory, transmission and belonging through installations that combine recovered objects, sound recordings and personal archives. The exhibition is part of a long-standing tradition of cultural cooperation between the two French-speaking Indian Ocean islands, and reaffirms the Department of Reunion’s commitment to supporting emerging artistic voices from the region. The opening was attended by cultural officials, members of the public, and representatives of the Seychellois diaspora in Reunion.
