President Ramkalawan Urges Accounting Officers to Break Down Silos

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Accounting officers in the executive branch of government have been asked to embrace decision-making roles, eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy, lead with accountability, and foster collaboration by breaking down administrative silos to improve overall efficiency. President Wavel Ramkalawan made the call during the first accounting officers’ forum for the year, which took place yesterday morning at the Sheikh Khalifa Diagnostic Centre conference room at the Seychelles Hospital.

The President used the forum to underline the central role that accounting officers play in the delivery of public services and the execution of government policy. He stressed that delays in decision-making, fragmented communication between ministries, and overlapping responsibilities continue to slow down the implementation of important national projects, and that a culture of accountability and collaboration is required to address these longstanding challenges.

The forum brought together principal secretaries and senior officials from across the public service. Participants were invited to share their experiences and propose practical solutions to the structural and procedural bottlenecks that have hindered service delivery. The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to public sector reform and indicated that similar forums will be held throughout the year to monitor progress and ensure that the public service is responsive to the needs of citizens and the broader development agenda.
