Foundation Stone Laid for New Anse Aux Pins Regional Health Centre

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan and Health Minister Peggy Vidot unveiled the plaque marking the laying of the foundation stone for a new regional health centre at Ile Soleil in the Anse Aux Pins district yesterday. The facility will also serve the populations of Au Cap and Pointe Larue, covering more than 18,000 people.
President Ramkalawan told those gathered: ‘Health is life, and this is a centre of life whose plaque for its foundation stone we are unveiling today.’ The project, expected to take 8-12 months to complete at a cost of more than R10 million, is still in the procurement process. Minister Vidot said the project ‘is an example of the love and devotion to the people of Seychelles and a better future’, adding that the new facility will be ‘more modern than the current one and we assure you that it will be better equipped with the latest technology.’
Also present were First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, Speaker of the National Assembly Roger Mancienne, cabinet ministers, and the MNAs for Anse Aux Pins, Au Cap and Pointe Larue — Clifford Andre, Kelly Saminadin and Conrad Gabriel. Chief executive of the Health Care Agency Dr Danny Louange said the existing clinic is old and limited, invaded by fungus and moisture and close to a sewerage area, prompting the move. The new facility will offer physiotherapy, basic tests, and specialised services that the current centre cannot accommodate, eliminating the usual one or two-day wait at the Victoria Hospital. District administrator for Anse Aux Pins Nigel Payet said the centre is ‘a symbol of progress, unity and the commitment of the government to the wellbeing of every person on the island.’
