Seychelles to Showcase Conservation and Blue Economy at Expo 2025 in Japan

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles is preparing to highlight its conservation record, cultural heritage and blue economy at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, with the country’s National Day scheduled for 6 September.

Director general for Destination Marketing at Tourism Seychelles, Bernadette Willemin, said the country’s presence at the Expo is ‘crucial’. ‘The overarching goal of Expo 2025 is to foster global partnerships, engage with international stakeholders and potential investors, and establish collaborations that promote sustainability and innovation,’ she said. Mrs Willemin added that the Seychelles stand will feature QR codes allowing visitors to access more information, and that a survey will be conducted to assess visitor interests, with a target of a 25% increase in visibility. Three key sectors — tourism, fisheries and blue economy, and investment — will be represented at the Expo.

Anne Rosette, chief executive of the Seychelles Investment Board, said the SIB is looking forward to the Expo, as it has not had significant exposure recently. ‘We are ready to support all government initiatives, and during the Expo, we will showcase investment opportunities for the sustainable development of our people,’ she said. Aubrey Lesperance, head of aquaculture, said the Fisheries ministry will participate, noting past interest from Japanese boats in Seychellois waters and current demand for tuna, grouper and sea urchins. Gallen Bresson, who was Commissioner for the Dubai Expo in 2021, said outcomes of that event included increased bilateral relations, MoUs and investments in Seychelles.
