Etihad Airways to End Direct Flights to Seychelles by May

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Etihad Airways has confirmed it will discontinue its direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Seychelles by mid-2025, with the final service on the route scheduled for May 15, 2025. The twice-weekly Airbus A320 service is being cut as part of Etihad’s broader network optimisation strategy, according to Travel and Tour World.
Following Etihad’s exit, Air Seychelles will take over the route with an expanded schedule. From May 23, 2025, the national carrier will operate six weekly flights using its Airbus A320neo, increasing connectivity between Seychelles and the UAE. Etihad will maintain a presence on the route through a codeshare agreement with Air Seychelles, ensuring travellers can still book flights via Etihad’s network while flying on Air Seychelles aircraft.
Industry experts said the decision aligns with Etihad’s focus on profitability and fleet efficiency, reallocating aircraft to more lucrative routes. The move could also reflect growing bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Seychelles, particularly through the codeshare partnership with Air Seychelles. Aviation analysts suggest the change could affect premium travellers, particularly business-class passengers, who have favoured Etihad’s service. Concerns remain about whether Air Seychelles’ increased frequency can fully replace the connectivity and service quality offered by Etihad.
