Seychellois Sailors Compete at India International Youth Sailing Championship

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychellois sailors Jeremy Vilvar, Antoine Amoore, and Ryan Sinon are currently competing at the India International Youth Sailing Championship in Hyderabad, representing their island nation among emerging sailing talents from across the region. The prestigious youth regatta, which commenced on Tuesday, has drawn young competitors from India, Thailand, Hong Kong, and the Seychelles to demonstrate their seamanship skills on international waters.

Participation in the India International Youth Sailing Championship marks a significant development opportunity for the Seychellois contingent, providing exposure to competitive racing conditions against diverse international opponents. The three athletes were selected based on their demonstrated performance in local sailing programmes and their potential to advance Seychelles’ standing in regional maritime sport competitions.

The championship features a fleet of 45 sailboats representing multiple nations, creating a highly competitive environment that tests both technical proficiency and tactical decision-making under pressure. Organisers report that the event has attracted considerable attention from the international sailing community, with favourable weather conditions in Hyderabad supporting excellent racing throughout the scheduled programme.

Seychelles has historically enjoyed strong maritime traditions, with sailing representing both a practical skill for island life and an increasingly competitive sporting discipline. The participation of young athletes at international youth regattas forms part of a broader national strategy to develop sporting excellence while strengthening cultural and diplomatic ties with fellow maritime nations across the Indian Ocean and beyond.

For Jeremy Vilvar, Antoine Amoore, and Ryan Sinon, the championship offers invaluable experience competing alongside peers from established sailing programmes in Hong Kong and Thailand. Performance at this level may influence future selections for national team representation and could open pathways to more advanced international competitions as these athletes progress in their sailing careers.

The India International Youth Sailing Championship continues through the week with final results expected by Sunday.
