Seychelles and Moldova Establish Formal Diplomatic Relations

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles and the Republic of Moldova have formally established diplomatic relations, marking a new chapter in bilateral engagement between the two countries. The establishment of relations was confirmed through an exchange of diplomatic notes, opening the way for cooperation across trade, education, culture, and multilateral diplomacy.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the establishment of diplomatic relations reflects both countries’ commitment to expanding their international engagement and diversifying their partnerships. Officials noted that Seychelles and Moldova share common interests in areas such as climate action, small state diplomacy, and the promotion of their respective cultures abroad. The relationship will be developed in a phased manner, starting with non-resident accreditation.
According to ministry officials, both countries have expressed interest in exploring cooperation in areas including education exchanges, agricultural expertise, and tourism promotion. The establishment of relations also provides a framework for Seychelles and Moldova to support each other’s candidates in international organisations. Officials said the relationship will be developed in line with the country’s balanced and non-aligned foreign policy.
The establishment of diplomatic relations with Moldova brings the number of countries with which Seychelles maintains formal ties to more than 150. Officials said the ministry continues to receive expressions of interest from countries seeking to establish or upgrade relations with Seychelles. The move reflects Seychelles’ active engagement with the international community and its commitment to multilateral cooperation.
