Seychelles highlights national priorities during visit of UK SIDS envoy

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr. Barry Faure, received the United Kingdom’s Special Envoy for Small Island Developing States, Mr. Tim Hemmings, on Thursday 26 February at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.
The visit formed part of a regional listening exercise following Mr. Hemmings’ appointment in July 2025. His engagement with Seychelles focused on understanding the country’s key challenges as a Small Island Developing State, in order to inform a more coordinated UK Government approach to supporting SIDS.
During the meeting, Minister Faure highlighted several challenges facing Seychelles, including coastal erosion, increasing traffic congestion, the need for expanded social housing, access to cleaner energy sources, and the rising cost of living. He expressed Seychelles’ interest in working alongside the United Kingdom on some of these key issues.
