President Herminie Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusion on Disability Day
VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Dr Patrick Herminie has issued a message on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed on December 3. ‘On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we stand united as a government in our commitment to building a society where every individual’s dignity, potential, and rights are recognised and upheld,’ the President said.
He paid tribute to persons with disabilities as resilient individuals who, despite facing challenges, continue to make significant contributions to communities, the economy, and the cultural fabric of Seychelles. He noted that thanks to dedicated social infrastructure established by the government, persons with disabilities have received numerous privileges and support mechanisms, including access to specialised healthcare services, inclusive education programmes, and vocational training opportunities that nurture their talents and skills.
President Herminie also highlighted public policies prioritising accessible infrastructure to ensure transportation, public facilities, and public spaces are more inclusive, and the implementation of legal frameworks and social programmes promoting equal rights and protecting against discrimination. ‘These privileges and support systems are not merely benefits; they are investments in our shared future,’ he said, reaffirming the government’s dedication to creating a society where inclusion is not just an aspiration but a reality for all.
