German Embassy Donates 14 Kindles to Seychelles National Library

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The German embassy has donated 14 Kindle e-readers to the Seychelles National Library, in a gesture aimed at expanding access to digital reading and supporting the library’s efforts to reach more readers across the country. The donation was made to coincide with activities highlighting the role of libraries in promoting literacy and lifelong learning.

The Kindles are preloaded with a wide selection of German and English-language titles, allowing borrowers to explore international literature alongside local works. The National Library said the devices will be made available for loan to registered members, with priority given to students and adult readers keen to broaden their reading habits beyond print. Officials noted that the e-readers complement the library’s existing digital catalogue and outreach to schools and community centres.

The embassy said the partnership reflects Germany’s continued support for cultural and educational exchange with Seychelles, and its commitment to promoting reading as a tool for personal development. The National Library thanked the embassy for the donation and indicated that further initiatives to modernise library services and extend outreach to underserved districts are being planned in the coming year.
