President Herminie Sends Condolences to Sri Lanka After Cyclone Ditwah Devastation
VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Dr Patrick Herminie has sent a message of condolence to Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, following the recent devastation caused by cyclone Ditwah. In his message, the President said he had received with profound sadness the news of the cyclone’s impact, which has claimed the lives of more than three hundred people, left many still unaccounted for, and caused widespread destruction across communities throughout the country.
‘On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Seychelles, and on my own behalf, I extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and convey our heartfelt prayers for strength and resilience to the people of Sri Lanka during this challenging time,’ President Herminie said. He also conveyed appreciation for the attention afforded to Seychellois nationals currently in Sri Lanka, noting that the assurance they are in a safe and supportive environment brings comfort to their families and to his government.
President Herminie added that the Republic of Seychelles stands in solidarity with the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as it continues to recover and rebuild from the calamity. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the honorary consulate in Colombo is also assisting on the ground, particularly with Seychellois students currently in Sri Lanka who have been displaced due to the heavy storm.
