United Seychelles Holds Victory Rally at Gordon Square
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The leader of United Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, on Sunday thanked all his activists, supporters, and patriots for electing him and his team to lead Seychelles for the next five years, and called on them to defend the victory at all costs and continue working for the country. The President made the declaration at a rally at Gordon Square, which United Seychelles had called a ‘victory rally’ and which saw the participation of a large number of people from the three main islands of Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue, from 1pm until 8.10pm.
Dr Herminie was elected in the second round of the presidential election in early October and was inaugurated on October 26. In his address on Sunday, he maintained that his party remains the only option for Seychelles and that in the next five years the country will have ‘stability, peace, and order’. He also referred to the announcements made on Friday in the National Assembly and said that United Seychelles has come up with a serious manifesto for the Seychellois people and the party has delivered on it.
‘We told you that we would reintroduce the long-service allowance, and we have done it. We said we would bring the social security retirement age back to 63, and we have done it. We said we would clear a large portion of the Assomption debt, and we have started. We said workers’ third-month salary is their right, and in January they will receive it, and we have done it,’ he told the crowd. Supporters interviewed said the rally demonstrated their victory and struggle, and expressed confidence in Dr Herminie’s ability to deliver on his promises during the next five years, particularly for young people and pensioners.
