LDS Holds First Major Gathering Since Election Loss
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) political party held a meeting with its activists and supporters on Friday evening at the International Conference Centre of Seychelles, the first large gathering since the party lost power to United Seychelles in the September–October 2025 general elections. The meeting, called at the request of supporters, served as a moment for reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to the future.
Former President Wavel Ramkalawan thanked the more than 30,000 voters who supported LDS in the recent polls. ‘I am really touched by the love that you have for me personally,’ he said, expressing appreciation for the continued loyalty shown by members and supporters. He took the opportunity to recall key accomplishments of the LDS administration from 2020 to 2025 and addressed recent claims that his government had left the State House in poor condition. ‘My hands are clean, and all of these accusations are false. Wavel John Charles Ramkalawan has left the State House only with what was mine,’ he said.
Mr Ramkalawan confirmed that the party’s publication, Vizyon, will resume publication and distribution as early as next week. He also announced plans to create a youth movement within the party to encourage new leadership and ensure continuity, and outlined upcoming events, including a major party convention in January 2026 which will also see the election of a new executive committee. Former Vice President Ahmed Afif and Leader of the Opposition Bernard Georges also addressed the gathering, urging activists to remain active and continue their advocacy work in communities.
