President Ramkalawan Highlights Notable Achievements in Final Presidential Address

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan delivered his final presidential address to the nation on Friday evening, in which he highlighted the notable achievements under his leadership over the past five years. The address was broadcast on national and private television stations, as well as national radio, at 8pm.
Elected in October 2020, Mr Ramkalawan made history as the first opposition leader to win a presidential election in Seychelles since the return of multi-party democracy in 1993. The outgoing president’s five-year mandate officially comes to an end on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
In his address, Mr Ramkalawan began by thanking the nation for the opportunity and privilege granted to him personally, together with Vice President Ahmed Afif and his team of ministers, to serve the people with all their energy and knowledge over the past five years. ‘It has truly been an honour to work as your servants in our different portfolios to ensure that your interests, the needs of this nation and the pride of our people are served at all times,’ he said.
Mr Ramkalawan went on to reflect on key milestones of his administration, including major infrastructure developments, the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change initiatives, the expansion of the social safety net, and reforms in education, healthcare and the economy. He thanked his family, his Cabinet, the National Assembly, the public service, the private sector, civil society and all Seychellois for their support over the years, and called for unity as the country prepares to welcome a new Head of State on Sunday.
