Dr Patrick Herminie Wins Seychelles Presidential Election Runoff

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychellois people have elected Dr Patrick Herminie of United Seychelles (US) as the country’s sixth President, securing 34,389 votes, or 52.7 percent of all valid votes cast during the presidential election runoff held on October 9, 10 and 11 across the islands.
His opponent, Wavel Ramkalawan of Linyon Demokratik Seselwa, conceded defeat following the announcement of results by the Electoral Commission Seychelles. Dr Herminie, who will serve a five-year term, is set to be sworn in as President in the coming weeks, marking the first change of government since 2020.
The runoff was held after the first round of September 25 failed to produce a winner, with neither candidate securing the 50 percent plus one threshold required. The campaign was contested vigorously across the country, with both sides focusing on the cost of living, the economy and the future direction of the islands.
Dr Herminie’s victory returns United Seychelles to State House after five years in opposition. His incoming administration is expected to be sworn in following the official certification of results and the convening of the new National Assembly.
