United Seychelles Supporters Celebrate National Assembly Victory
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Supporters of the United Seychelles (US) party gathered outside the party’s headquarters, Maison du Peuple, on Sunday afternoon to celebrate winning 19 seats in the National Assembly, following the announcement of the general election results.
A large group gathered on the road, pavements, the building steps and the field opposite the headquarters, with music and dancing. Among them was Kelly Bertin, a young first-time voter, who said she cast her vote for US because she felt Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) was not addressing the concerns of young people or the wider community. ‘They weren’t listening to the voices of the youth, nor those of older individuals,’ she added.
Another supporter, Cynthia Moustache, expressed confidence in the party’s presidential candidate. ‘I am disappointed that we have to go into a second round, but we know that Patrick Herminie won the first one. I guarantee that in the second round, they (LDS) will be defeated,’ she said.
Across the northern and central regions, including St Louis, Bel Ombre and Glacis, supporters of both main parties were seen branding their flags and singing, with some organising motorcades. LDS supporters from Glacis, Julio Etienne and Jerryanka Volcy, said they were a bit disappointed by the outcome but expressed readiness for the second round.
