United Seychelles Secures Four Proportional Seats to Form Eighth National Assembly
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Electoral Commission of Seychelles (ECS) has confirmed that United Seychelles (US) has secured four proportional seats under the proportional representation system, bringing the party’s total representation to 23 members in the eighth National Assembly.
The results, announced on Sunday morning at the ECS headquarters in Mont Fleuri, complete the picture of the new legislature that will serve Seychelles for the next five years. The proportional seats are added to the 19 directly elected constituency seats already won by US, giving the party a clear majority in the Assembly.
District-level results published by the ECS showed strong performances by US candidates across the inner islands, including Grand Anse Praslin where Alvin Grandcourt secured 1,341 votes, the highest individual tally recorded in that district. Other US candidates also reported comfortable margins in their respective constituencies, reflecting the party’s strong showing on the islands.
The eighth National Assembly is expected to be convened in the coming weeks, once all members have been officially notified and the official gazette has been published. The Assembly will then proceed to elect a Speaker before the second round of the presidential election on October 9, 10 and 11.
