National Library Receives Book Donation from Indian High Commission

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The National Library has received a donation of 20 books from the Indian High Commission in Seychelles, covering India’s famous legends, stories, places and traditions.

The books were handed over to principal librarian Anne Mary Robert by the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner, Rohit Rathish, during a small ceremony held on Wednesday at the National Library.

‘A book is a gift you can open again and again. Books are powerful vehicles of knowledge, culture and dialogue. In gifting these books, we hope to share with the people of Seychelles a window into the depth and diversity of India,’ said High Commissioner Rathish, highlighting the role of the Indian diaspora in Seychelles and how it has woven itself into the social and economic fabric of the nation.

Some of the donated books are children’s books, in line with the saying ‘today a reader, tomorrow a leader’. The High Commission is also preparing to commemorate the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The newly donated books will soon be available for borrowing at the National Library.
