Electoral Commission and Partners Declare Readiness for General Election

VICTORIA, Seychelles — With less than a week before voters head to the polls, the Electoral Commission of Seychelles (ECS) and its partners have declared they are fully ready for the general election, scheduled to take place over three days from September 25 to 27, 2025, starting with the outer islands.

At a press conference held on Friday afternoon at the ECS headquarters in Mont Fleuri, the commission was joined by key partners including the police, the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC), the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS), the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) and the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA). All stakeholders assured the public that preparations are in place to ensure a smooth and peaceful vote.

Chief Electoral Officer Manuella Amesbury highlighted the major budget component of converting schools, provided by the Ministry of Education, into polling stations, with electoral officers, police and party representatives working together ahead of polling day. Ballot Control Officer Steve Thelermont confirmed that allocations have been made for all 26 electoral areas, with buffer stock in place. Some 400 to 600 voters are expected to make use of the National House special station, and around 3,400 voters are expected at the English River special station.

Mrs Amesbury also confirmed that braille folders for visually impaired voters arrived together with the ballot papers from the UAE, and that the 98 polling stations will operate over the three days. Travel arrangements for staff, police, party and candidate agents are being finalised. The ECS urged the public to check their voter registration details and to come out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right.
