Sixteen Families Receive Keys at Anse Aux Poules Bleues Housing Estate

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Sixteen families received the keys to their new homes at the Anse Aux Poules Bleues Housing Estate in Baie Lazare on Wednesday morning, marking the completion of Phase 2 of the Baie Lazare housing project. The new development consists of eight three-bedroom and eight two-bedroom apartments.
President Wavel Ramkalawan joined Minister for Land and Housing Billy Rangasamy in cutting the ribbon alongside the new tenants. Among them was Dominique Monthy, who has waited 20 years for a home and contributed over R80,000. ‘Back then I had only one child. I have been waiting and asking for so long to no avail. At one point, I was told they could not find my housing application,’ he said. ‘I had to apply again in 2016, and when the assembly changed, I spoke to my MNA, who urged me to keep making my monthly contributions, which has finally led to this.’
The project was undertaken by China Shenyang Corporation at a cost of R17,815,772.52. Construction began on November 13, 2023, and was completed in September this year. The complex features retaining walls, a car park, a children’s playground, a boundary wall, adequate parking spaces, a service ramp and solar-powered lighting.
Minister Rangasamy said the next five-year target is 1,800 housing units, and reiterated the government’s commitment to building sustainable projects that allow citizens to live in dignity. He also made clear that anti-social behaviour, particularly drugs, will not be tolerated in the new estate.
