Former President Faure Endorses Herminie at United Seychelles Unity Rally

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Former President Danny Faure publicly endorsed United Seychelles presidential candidate Dr Patrick Herminie and his running mate Sebastien Pillay at the party’s Unity Rally at Gordon Square on Sunday, drawing supporters from Mahé, Praslin and La Digue ahead of the September 27 election.

Mr Faure, accompanied by his wife Shermin, told the crowd that Dr Herminie had spent months listening to ordinary Seychellois, comforting the vulnerable and shaping their concerns into a coherent manifesto. ‘All those ideas, the conversations he has had with you, today feature in a political programme we call a manifesto,’ he said. ‘Today I can gladly tell you that there is a place for each Seychellois in the manifesto.’

Dr Herminie outlined his party’s ‘For the many, not the few’ platform, underpinned by a 100-day action plan. Key pledges include revoking the 10th Amendment to the Constitution — which allows the Seychelles Defence Forces to conduct internal law enforcement outside declared public emergencies — reinstating public servants he said were wrongly dismissed, revising the declaration of assets regime, adjusting the VAT threshold for small guesthouses, re-introducing STC franchise at district level, and scrapping special ministerial allowances. He also pledged to revisit the Assomption hotel project, insisting the site must be returned to Seychelles.

Running mate Sebastien Pillay urged voters to remove the incumbent, while the candidate’s wife, Veronique Herminie, and youth representatives also addressed the gathering. Supporters danced to the party’s campaign songs for over six hours.
