Seven Candidates Face Off in First Presidential Debate Ahead of 2025 Elections

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The first presidential debate for the imminent 2025 election was held yesterday evening. Kicking off at exactly 7pm, the debate, organised by the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC), was the first live broadcast from SBC House, Union Vale.
Seven of the eight presidential candidates — Alain St Ange (Lalyans Nouvo Sesel), Dr Patrick Herminie (United Seychelles), independent candidate Kisna Louise, independent candidate Ralph Volcère, Robert Moumou (Seychelles People’s National Movement), independent candidate Charles De Clarisse and Maarco Francis (Seychelles United Movement) — who are contesting the election participated, each taking their opportunity to outline their plans and promises for the next five years, and convince the Seychellois electorate why they are the best option for Seychelles. Incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan of Linyon Demokratik Seselwa declined to take part.
It was the second time that the national broadcaster organised the debate, giving the candidates a chance to discuss pertinent matters, with the first held ahead of the 2015 elections. In order to determine the questions to be put to the candidates, SBC called on the public to submit questions, and it was revealed that over 100 were sent in. Each candidate was given 1 minute 30 seconds to address the questions put to them. The debate was moderated by radio presenter Marie-Claude D’Unienville and journalist Georgette Hoareau.
