Sony François Payet Re-appointed as Chief Executive of Seychelles Ports Authority

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The board of the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) has announced the re-appointment of Sony François Payet for a second term as chief executive, effective July 1, 2025. Mr Payet’s re-appointment has been made in consultation with the Minister for Transport and the President of the Republic in accordance with Section 75(1) of the Public Enterprises Act, 2023, and is regarded as a testament to his strong leadership and transformative achievements during his initial three-year mandate.

First appointed on July 1, 2022, Mr Payet brought to the role over two decades of private sector experience, including significant leadership roles in project management, maritime governance and infrastructure development. His tenure at SPA has been marked by strategic reforms, operational modernisation and major infrastructural advancements, positioning the authority as a key driver of Seychelles’ economic and maritime ambitions.

One of Mr Payet’s most notable accomplishments has been overseeing the modernisation of port facilities, including the early phases of the Port Victoria Rehabilitation and Expansion Project (PVREP), to lay the groundwork for a port that will better accommodate growing maritime traffic and larger vessels. Additionally, under his leadership, SPA has championed digital transformation across its operations through the Port Victoria Management Information System (PVMIS) that will significantly increase efficiency and transparency. The re-appointment signals continued confidence in his vision and leadership. With a renewed mandate, Mr Payet is expected to deepen SPA’s modernisation drive, strengthen regional maritime partnerships, and ensure the authority continues to serve as a cornerstone of Seychelles’ economic infrastructure.
