United Seychelles Launches Manifesto Titled ‘For the Many, Not the Few’

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The United Seychelles party, led by its president and presidential candidate Patrick Herminie, launched the party’s manifesto in a packed auditorium at the University of Seychelles, Anse Royale, over the weekend. Titled ‘For the many, not the few’, the document outlines the party’s programme for the next five years, with emphasis on progress and socioeconomic development. Prepared by a group of local experts over several months under the guidance of Mr Herminie, the document addresses several issues aimed at transforming the country.

One of the experts, Barry Faure, highlighted the key points, revealing that the party carried out in-depth studies, including a budget review to study the financial impact of such a manifesto, and confirmed it was feasible. The party’s core principles are to ensure progress, a vision for transformation, the creation of resilience, responsible leadership, safe communities, the redefinition of health care and a vision for a modern financial system at the service of the people. The third section of the manifesto addresses fundamental pillars including finance and economic resilience, a review of the education system, health and wellbeing, social development and family, the environment, employment, tourism and cultural heritage, among others.

Also taking the stage was financial expert and former Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles, Pierre Laporte, who elaborated on the financial component of the manifesto, stressing the need for a financial system that supports growth, the people and business development. When addressing supporters, Mr Herminie said the manifesto was an inclusive document, describing it as the beginning of a transformation in Seychelles. ‘It is one that will ensure a resilient economy, where everyone is able to do so without seeking authorisation from Qatar,’ he stressed. He added that his party will also introduce the ‘living wage’ concept, ensure employees get their 13th month salary, review bus fees, reduce the cost of electricity, and the cost of telecommunication and internet usage. United Seychelles is leading its campaign with the slogan ‘Sel Opsyon pour Sesel’.
