United Seychelles Holds Big Mini Stadium Rally With Herminie Address

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Leader of the United Seychelles party, Patrick Herminie, on Sunday reiterated his party’s intentions, if elected, to improve the lives of all Seychellois by revising several social and economic measures that he says are not in the interest of the population. Mr Herminie was speaking at his party’s rally held at the Mini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
A large crowd of supporters turned up for the meeting, with some having marched from the party’s base at Maison Du Peuple to the field in the centre of Victoria. Party leaders, who were the last to take the floor after vice-presidential candidate Sebastien Pillay, youth representatives and district-level representatives, highlighted key points that United Seychelles has been putting forward for some time, such as the re-introduction of the 13th-month salary, a review of long-service payments, a review of retirement age to bring it back to 63 instead of 65, and ensuring that workers of the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) and Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) receive their bonuses.
‘These people need to understand that we are a progressive party and a workers’ party. We will always stand by workers,’ he said. During his address, he also said that his party stands against injustice, and made reference to those falsely accused by the police and the military, who he said are denied promotion on the basis of merit, or are punished because of their political colour.
