Department of Employment Hosts Youth Forum to Address Skills and Job Market Needs

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Department of Employment has hosted a youth forum aimed at addressing the skills and job market needs of young Seychellois. The forum brought together young job seekers, training institutions, employers, and government officials to discuss ways of bridging the gap between skills and opportunities in the labour market.

According to national data, more than 30 percent of households in Seychelles are qualified for certain jobs but are not offered alternatives. Participants discussed the need to align training with industry demand, to provide clearer career guidance, and to support young people in transitioning from education to employment.

Minister Justin Valentin, who was present at the forum, said the government is committed to working with all stakeholders to address these challenges and to create an environment where young people can contribute meaningfully to the country’s development. The forum ended with a series of recommendations for further engagement and action.
