Andy Asba Sworn In as Master of the Supreme Court

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Andy Asba was officially sworn in yesterday as Master of the Supreme Court of Seychelles in a ceremony held at State House. His appointment by President Wavel Ramkalawan followed recommendations from the Constitutional Appointments Authority (CAA), as stipulated by Article 127 of the country’s Constitution.

The ceremony included the taking of two oaths: the Oath of Allegiance and the Judicial Oath. Following his swearing-in, Mr Asba said it was an honour and a privilege to have been appointed, describing the moment as ‘a reflection of my hard work, commitment and dedication to justice’. He added that he has renewed his commitment to continue serving the country with integrity and professionalism.

In Seychelles, a Master of the Supreme Court is a judicial officer who handles specific cases, particularly those of an interlocutory nature, and plays a role in record keeping, legal matters, and ensuring the smooth operation of the court. The Master can hear and determine matters under the Seychelles Code of Civil Procedure or other relevant legislation, as directed by the Chief Justice.
