Uganda’s NSSF Begins Benchmarking Exercise With Seychelles Pension Fund

VICTORIA, Seychelles — A four-member delegation from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) of Uganda is in Seychelles for a three-day benchmarking exercise with the Seychelles Pension Fund (SPF), which began yesterday. The visit aims to enable the NSSF to learn from the transformation of the former Seychelles National Provident Fund into a fully-fledged pension fund and to share best practices on social protection, digital service delivery, compliance, and pension administration.

SPF chief executive Nishreen Abdul Majid said such institutions keep seeking assistance from the SPF because the latter has proven to be one of the most successful and advanced pension funds in the region. ‘Our pension system is among the most advanced, and this has sparked interest from others eager to learn how it works following its transformation,’ she said, while noting that the SPF hopes to learn from the delegation in order to further enhance its own digital services.

Pauline Nagadya Nyesigire, senior manager for Benefits and Data at the NSSF, said her institution chose SPF as a benchmarking partner due to its top-tier services and extensive coverage in both mandatory and voluntary contributions. The NSSF of Uganda is the second international provident fund in Africa to undertake a benchmarking exercise with the SPF, following a delegation from the Eswatini National Provident Fund in early April.
