President Ramkalawan Honours Artist Joe Samy in State House Ceremony
VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has honoured the late Seychellois artist Joe Samy in a ceremony at State House, recognising his immense contribution to the preservation and promotion of Seychelles’ cultural heritage. The ceremony, attended by members of the artistic community, family, and senior government officials, paid tribute to a life dedicated to art, music, and storytelling.
In his tribute, the President highlighted Mr Samy’s role as a cultural icon whose work helped to preserve traditional Kreol forms and to inspire generations of Seychellois artists. The honour reflected the country’s commitment to recognising artists who have contributed to the national identity and to passing on cultural values to future generations.
