Kishnan Louise Declares Bid for Presidency as Independent Candidate

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Kishnan Louise, a 55-year-old political activist and Port Glaud resident, yesterday announced his intention to stand as an independent candidate in the September presidential election. The declaration was made at a press conference held at the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (CEPS) headquarters at Orion Mall.

Mr Louise, who entered politics at the age of 17, has 39 years of experience with both the Seychelles National Party (14 years) and United Seychelles (25 years). His election logo is ‘Real Power People’ and his motto ‘Taking the people to action for the future generations.’ He becomes the fourth Seychellois to declare a candidacy, after Ralph Volcère, Alain St Ange and Robin Johnston. His running mate will be announced in due course, he said.

Mr Louise, who is self-employed, said politicians have stripped people of their power, and that he wants to restore that power. ‘My dream is to help my people and to give them back their power,’ he said, adding that he wants to reunite the people so they take action for future generations. If elected, his cabinet would comprise individuals who have applied for the posts, contrary to the present case, he said. Mr Louise was accompanied at the press conference by his companion Brina Morel. He called on the main political parties to ensure a fair campaign without intimidation.
