Seychelles Ranks 18th in 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles has retained its position as the least corrupt country in Africa, ranking 18th globally in the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) published by Transparency International. With a score of 72 out of 100, the island nation has achieved its highest ranking to date, further reinforcing its reputation for good governance and transparency.
In a press release issued yesterday, President Wavel Ramkalawan expressed pride in the country’s continued progress in combating corruption. ‘As the smallest country in Africa, Seychelles continues to demonstrate that size is no barrier to excellence in governance. Our progressive performance in the fight against corruption is a reflection of the values we uphold as a nation — integrity, justice and accountability,’ the President said.
The President also praised the efforts of anti-corruption agencies, public institutions, civil society and the private sector for fostering a culture of transparency. ‘This recognition belongs to every Seychellois who believes in, and works towards, a just and accountable nation,’ he added. The Anti-Corruption Commission and other oversight bodies have been credited with maintaining institutional checks, although observers have argued that convictions and asset-recovery cases remain rare relative to the volume of allegations raised each year.
