Sifco, Electoral Commission and Political Parties Begin Dialogue on Peaceful Elections

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Representatives of the Seychelles Interfaith Council (Sifco), the Electoral Commission and political parties gathered at the EC’s Mont Fleuri headquarters yesterday for the first in a series of dialogues aimed at fostering peace, unity and mutual respect ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in September 2025. The meeting also marked the observance of the United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week.
This year’s theme, ‘Mutual Respect, Tolerance, and Acceptance’, urged all political factions in Seychelles to adopt a culture of civility and cooperation, especially during the critical electoral period. Reverend Danny Elizabeth, the chairperson of Sifco, emphasised the importance of dialogue and understanding in maintaining peace, particularly in a politically charged environment. “We are here to listen to suggestions on how we can navigate the electoral process smoothly, and we hope to encourage a culture of mutual respect, tolerance and acceptance from all parties and their supporters,” he said.
Reverend Elizabeth expressed his commitment to ensuring that all voices were heard and that the process leading up to the elections would be guided by mutual respect. “It is not only about winning elections, but ensuring that, regardless of the outcome, Seychelles remains united in peace,” he added. The dialogue is anticipated to continue to evolve over the coming months as all parties work together to ensure that Seychelles’ upcoming elections are held with the highest standards of fairness and mutual understanding.
