Lady Julia Osei Tutu of the Ashanti Kingdom Pays Courtesy Call on President Ramkalawan
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Her Royal Highness Lady Julia Osei Tutu, the spouse of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene of the Kingdom of Ashanti in Ghana, paid a courtesy call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House yesterday.
Lady Julia, who is on a private visit to Seychelles, was warmly received by President Ramkalawan and First Lady Linda Ramkalawan. She was accompanied by her daughter, Nana Afua Kobi Serwaa Ampem Osei Tutu, Kwame Acquah, the honorary consul of Seychelles in Ghana, and other members of her delegation. The visit follows a meeting between Lady Julia and the First Couple in Ghana last year.
In her discussions with the President, Lady Julia emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation between Seychelles and the Kingdom of Ashanti, particularly on cultural collaboration. She singled out the Prempeh story — the history of the Asante Kingdom and its rulers, including Agyeman Prempeh, who was deposed and exiled to Seychelles — as a shared heritage both nations could promote. “The fauna and the flora are a bit similar to home, but I think you have done a better job with environmental preservation in your country,” she added.
