Plaisance District Honours Women in Recognition Ceremony
VICTORIA, Seychelles, As part of the International Women’s Day celebration on March 8, the Plaisance district administration on Friday hosted a recognition ceremony to honour women who have contributed greatly towards the society. The fourth edition of the recognition ceremony honoured Maryse Berlouis, Bella Francourt, Stella Marie, Edwige Renaud, Gemma Robert and Isis Rath. These outstanding individuals were highlighted for their remarkable contributions and achievements, representing a diverse range of talents and endeavours. Their dedication to their respective fields serves as an inspiration to the community.
The ceremony was held at the Plaisance administration hall in the presence of First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, and elected member of the National Assembly for Plaisance, Richard Labrosse. Also in attendance were representatives of women’s groups, family members of the honourees and other invited guests. The presence of the First Lady lent national significance to what has become an important annual event in the district calendar.
When addressing the guests, MNA Labrosse urged parents to support their daughters and ensure they grow into strong and wise women, and to teach their boys the respect that women deserve. Women are the backbone of society and that is 100 percent true, said Mr Labrosse. He noted that the lessons learned at home form the foundation of how young people treat one another throughout their lives.
Additionally, certificates were presented to women working for the district administration office of Plaisance namely, Marcelle Mirabeau, Marie-Reine Larame, Nadia Valentin. These certificates were bestowed in recognition of their tireless efforts and hard work that contribute to the greatness of the district. The district administration noted that the work of these women often goes unseen but is essential to the smooth running of local services.
In her vote of thanks on behalf of the other recipients, Stella Marie thanked the district administration office for recognising their contribution. Speaking to this newspaper, Edwige Renaud, one of the women who were honoured, stated that this came as a surprise for her and she was overwhelmed with appreciation and happiness. I’m very proud that this year I was one of the nominees in recognition of my hard work in my profession as a teacher, said Mrs Renaud. The ceremony featured performances by various women, including a song performed by four young ladies in Taniah Entertainment Academy, and a gospel song by Isis and Isham Rath.
