Micock Stuns Solomon Islands to Reach Boxing Quarter-Finals at Glasgow 2026

GLASGOW, Scotland — Seychellois boxer Jade Micock has moved within one victory of a Commonwealth Games medal after reaching the Men’s 80kg quarter-finals at Glasgow 2026, setting up a Wednesday meeting with India’s Ankush Panghal in the medal bracket at the SEC Centre.
Micock advanced through the round of 32 and round of 16 on Friday 24 July and Monday 27 July, opening a route that, if he beats Panghal on Wednesday, will deliver at least a bronze medal, as both losing semi-finalists at the Commonwealth Games receive bronze under the World Boxing competition rules.
India’s Panghal booked his place in the last eight with a unanimous 5-0 win over Antigua and Barbuda’s Zalaan Jan in the round of 16, and a report on the day four action confirmed he will face Micock on Wednesday 29 July. The 20-year-old from Haryana is one victory away from earning a medal in his first Commonwealth Games, the same report said.
Micock’s 80kg draw has been particularly well documented, with the official Wikipedia bracket for the event listing him as one of 24 boxers from 24 nations who entered the discipline. He is in the same quarter of the draw as Northern Ireland’s Eoghan Quinn and England’s Dimeji Shittu.
The Men’s 80kg competition is among seven men’s weight classes at the Glasgow Games, the first Commonwealth Games to feature gender parity in boxing with seven men’s and seven women’s categories, World Boxing confirmed when the weights were announced. The decision brought the approach used by the International Olympic Committee on weight classes into line with the LA28 Olympic programme, as World Boxing’s announcement and a BBC schedule explainer make clear.
The bout schedule at Glasgow 2026 sees semi-finals on Friday 31 July and the gold medal bouts on Saturday 1 August, with all 14 boxing finals being broadcast on TNT Sports and HBO Max, according to the World Boxing preview. The competition runs from 24 July to 1 August at the SEC Centre.
Seychelles has historically punched above its weight at the Commonwealth Games. At Glasgow 2014, the country won three medals in boxing, including a silver and two bronzes, and a strong showing here would be celebrated as a return to that form. The country’s 2026 squad is being run by the Seychelles National Sports Council, which is fielding a multi-sport team in Scotland.
If Micock beats Panghal on Wednesday, his semi-final is scheduled for Friday 31 July. The gold medal in the 80kg category will be decided on Saturday 1 August.
