Russian Ambassador-designate Sokolov-Shcherbachev pays courtesy call on Minister Faure

VICTORIA, Seychelles. The Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr Barry Faure, received the Ambassador-designate of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Mr Kirill Gennadievich Sokolov-Shcherbachev, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy on Monday, 27 July 2026.
Ambassador-designate Sokolov-Shcherbachev extended his gratitude to the Seychelles Government for its support in the multilateral fora. He also noted that he was pleased that President Herminie will be leading the Seychelles delegation for the Russia-Africa Summit later this year.
Minister Faure acknowledged that President Herminie’s High-Level Bilateral Working Visit to Russia in April has further bolstered the bilateral relations between the two countries. The Minister also took the opportunity to thank the Russian Government for delivering on agreements made during the working visit, notably regarding Russian national carrier Aeroflot providing continuous flights to the Seychelles instead of operating seasonally, which is aiding to sustain the tourism sector during the crisis in the Middle East.
Ambassador-designate Sokolov-Shcherbachev also presented Minister Faure with a small selection of pictures of President Herminie’s working visit to Russia, a commemorative pamphlet containing information on diplomatic ties shared between the two countries during the last five decades, as well as a commemorative pin.
The Ambassador-designate replaces Ambassador Artyom Kozhin and will be accredited as the Resident Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Seychelles on Tuesday 4 August 2026.
